DAQPro Used to Test Astronauts' Space Suits

Astronauts' space suits must protect them against hazardously extreme conditions including lack of pressure and oxygen, radiation, micrometeoroids and temperature extremes. In space the difference between sun and shade can be hundreds of degrees. The Fourier DaqPRO has been selected to help space suit developers and researchers at a leading Asian Space Agency counter the dangers of exposure to extremely high temperatures. Two DaqPRO units are being used by the Agency to test the heat flux of astronauts' space suits in the field of aerospace thermal protection testing. Military engineers are using the units in rigorous thermal testing procedures. These tests include: Heat-resistant protective clothing tests, high temperature gas dynamics tests, propellant and powder performance tests and energy saving, thermal insulation performance tests. The fire science scientists used a selection of heat sensors offered by Fourier. Available temperature sensors inputs from Fourier for the DaqPRO include the NTC, PT100, Temperature Thermocouple J with a range of  -200 to 1200 ºC; Temperature Thermocouple K with a range of -250 to 1,200 ºC and Temperature Thermocouple T with a range of  -200 to 400 ºC.

DataNet System Monitors Medical Equipment Shipment Conditions for Medtronic, Singapore

For 40 years Medtronic have been pioneering medical technologies that save and extend thousands of lives and relieve suffering of patients all over the world. In the production of medical equipment for surgical procedures, Medtronic must carefully monitor the incubator storage and global shipment conditions and ensure a constant temperature is maintained in transport between countries. The application has a particular challenge in that the incubator walls are made of metal, the DataNet system was able to overcome this particular challenge by leveraging the new SRR mode. An additional DataNet is placed inside the incubator's room and is set to SRR mode. The unit measures room temperature and communicates with the additional DataNet units inside the incubators, By applying the SRR short range repeater for DNL910 and DNL920, the technicians are able to overcome any RF barriers. Data loggers in SRR mode must be connected to AC at all times, as with all DNR900 units. The SRR units can connect to 24 data loggers and 16 Repeaters (Repeaters can be DNR900, DNL920 & DNL910 in SRR mode). The Medtronic application loggers now also operate as ZigBee repeaters for short range (SRR) which reduce costs and increase network robustness. So far the initial implementation has proved very successful, the company have found the units to improve efficiency and reliability of procedures and they plan to extend the system with more units in the short term.

Fourier's Taiwanese Distributor, Scientific Corporation, Establish Successful DataNet Network for Government Monitored Umbilical Cord Blood Lab

The DataNet system application is an umbilical cord laboratory where cord blood stem cell research is carried out and cord blood is stored. The Taiwanese government requires daily reports on the laboratory's deep cold refrigerators and room humidity and temperature environment status. To meet the government requirements they needed a computerized solution that could measure and produce printed reports via the lab computer system. The lab decided that the DataNet solution features were most appropriate in helping them respond to Ministry of Health's strict regulations.

Umbilical cord blood is considered a key resource in stem cell research. Until recently umbilical cord blood was considered medical waste to be disposed of after the birth of a newborn, however today medical perceptions have dramatically changed. Today umbilical cord blood and the plentiful cryopreservation of the stem cells found in the cord blood are considered life saving. Umbilical cord blood is a 100 percent biological match to the newborn. Commonly the blood is now used in stem research and stored in specialized cord blood banks. These specimens perform two potentially valuable functions. They can help future patients in need of stem cell transplants or act as a private source for the newborn child and their family.

A simple network has been applied and utilizes five DNL920 loggers, one DNL910 and one Receiver. The external PT100 temperature sensor measures room temperature and the internal RH sensor monitors humidity inside the laboratory. Additional sensors including thermocouple temperature sensors, with a range as low as -80º C, are used to monitor the temperature in the laboratory's refrigerators. According to governmental stipulations they apply a sampling rate of one per minute and daily reports are then printed and submitted to the Taiwanese Health Ministry.

As a safety procedure for night emergencies, lab technicians have applied on two of the loggers inputs for an emergency On/Off switch. When the switch is hit in an emergency situation this changes the resistance, crossing the alarm state threshold. Using the GSM modem feature emergency SMS messages could be sent to the manager on call. Units are connected to a secured (UPS) AC source at all times.
Additionally the system leverages the new SRR short range repeater mode which overcomes RF transmission hurdles in the network and ensures a stronger and more flexible system.

East Summit, Fourier Systems Industry Master Distributor for China, Use DaqPRO to Monitor Fireworks' Quality

The discovery of fireworks, in fact the formula for gunpowder, is commonly believed to have happened by chance in China 2,000 years ago. Three common kitchen ingredients were heated over a fire and when dried and burned gave a loud bang. Inserting this into a bamboo stick led to early fire crackers. Today the field of pyrotechnics is developing rapidly and China is recognized as the number one producer of quality fireworks, in terms of technology. There is a huge market in China, since fireworks play a crucial role in ritual and festivities, but also as a major exporter.

One leader in the Chinese fireworks industry, recently had their products tested with the DaqPRO solution by the China National Key Laboratory for pyrotechnic testing. This official body is situated in Hunan province and plays a key role in defining national safety standards in manufacture, acceptance checks, sales, transportation, storage and launching of fireworks. To ensure safer and more environmentally-friendly offerings and meet safety regulations both at home and abroad, the company takes quality inspection very seriously. They were looking for a solution that would maintain their product's high quality reputation. They considered the DaqPRO to be the answer. The independent data acquisition solution could stand alone in extreme testing conditions and allowed for the measurement of very high temperatures via the type T thermocouple sensor which can measure up to 400 degrees centigrade. One or more heat flux sensors are connected to the DaqPRO with a distance kept of at least one meter from the pyrotechnical material. Heat flux and temperature are measured in sync and at the end of the recording process the DaqPRO recorded data is downloaded to a computer for analysis. The DaqPRO allows on-screen editing so comments to be made next to collected data. The lab measure at what point the fireworks combust so that the safety levels of the pyrotechnical materials could be verified while stored on supermarket shelves or in shipment.
